Steam Powered Boats

These are model boats that use a steam boiler to generate steam as the power source for an engine that then drives the propeller or propellers or paddle wheels, they are known as steamers and commonly use camping gas to boil the water in the boiler.

The Joys of Steam Boats
The engine is usually a 2 cylinder inline or in a V format. The boiler is made of copper with fittings of pressure gauge, safety valve and water gauge. The heat is provided by a small refillable gas tank filled with Butane/Propane mix. At the lake the engine is lubricated with steam oil, the burner is lit, at this stage other members shout out when is tea up? When the pressure rises to about 30psi the throttle on the transmitter is slowly moved and the engine spits into life. The steam comes from the engine into a tank called a condenser which catches oil and water this prevents you from polluting the lake. After about 20 to 25 minutes on the lake the boat is brought back in, the boiler cooled and refilled with water ready for the next run. The sight of your steam boat under steam power with steam emitting from the funnel makes all the fun worth while.
Happy Steaming!!!
